Το δεύτερο μέρος της τριλογίας που έχουν κυκλοφορήσει οι Gates of Ishtar. Για τον ίδιο το δίσκο θα μπορούσα να γράψω πάνω κάτω τα ίδια πράγματα που είχα αναφέρει στο At Dusk and Forever. Βατό μελωδικό death metal που απευθύνεται στους fans του ιδιώματος με το μεγάλο (σε διάρκεια) κομμάτι - Dawn of Flames στην περίπτωσή μας - να κλέβει την παράσταση με τον πλουραλισμό θεμάτων και τις όμορφες μουσικές ιδέες.
Στα notes της επανέκδοση της Century Media, βρήκα πολύ ενδιαφέρον τις παρακάτω σκέψεις του Mikael Sandorf, τραγουδιστή και στιχουργό της μπάντας
The label also mishandled the cover art to the Dawn of Flames. Famously singled out as one of the worst covers in the 90s, the green barbarian motif, replete with a topless female warrior, had very little to do with the Gates of Ishtar. Not musically and certainly not lyrically - which centered on Sandorf's personal demons not imbecilic interpretations of Conan sagas - the cover was so egretious the label omitted the artist credit.
"We were sent a version of the cover from Invasion", recalls Sandorf. "We liked it. But we wanted small changes to it. We pointed those out. They promised to make the changes. Then, we did not hear anything about it. We were under the impression everything was as we had agreed upon. Then, when we got the final print, it was not only a totally different cover, but also the ugliest piece of cover we had ever seen. We were furious as hell, but the damage was already done."
Στη φωτογραφία έχω συμπεριλάβει το original άθλιο εξώφυλλο. Η βυζουκλού που έχει γραπώσει τη spikeball σαν να κρατάει pokeball, τον βάρβαρο που κρεμάει το σπαθί του στο τζάκι, τον πολεμιστή πιο πίσω που κρατάει αλλοπρόσαλλά το battleaxe (το οποίο για κάποιον αδιανόητο λόγο καλύπτει το μπράτσο του βάρβαρου - Photoshop από τα Lidl) κι η γκόμενα ακόμη πιο πίσω με το πιο αντιαισθητικό γυμνασμένο σώμα (τα βυζιά της κοντεύουν να φτάσουν στις μασχάλες), πυρσό στο αριστερό χέρι και τσιγάρο στο δεξί (αλάνι της θύρας 7 κατά την είσοδο των ομάδων στο γήπεδο).
